Vintage Crew: Parisian Rockabilly Gangs of 1980s
Whether trying to get in front of the fashion curb or taking a vintage aproach, one must consider the musical scene. I can't think of a single more direct driver of fashion than the music (maybe economics but...meh) A perfect example of this was the Parisian rockabilly revivalists of the 1980s.
Honestly, the reach of American pop-culture never ceases to amaze me. These rockabilly gangs, were from the outskirts of Paris but were ferociously mining 1950s southern rockers for musical tastes and style cues. Bo Diddly, Chuck Berry and Elvis were said to be heavy inspirations. Their look consisted of bomber jackets, heavy sideburns, 501 denims and a nice fade haircut.
Take a look at more photos from Gilles Elie Cohen's book of photographs entitled Vikings and Panthers to get a glimpse of the style. One look that has really inspired me for the upcoming fall season are the tucked over-sized shirts and high waist jeans. Do you spot anything that you would integrate into you're fall look?
